Man kī man hī māhi rahī.
The mind remains in the mind.
ਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਜੇ ਨ ਤੀਰਥ ਸੇਵੇ ਚੋਟੀ ਕਾਲਿ ਗਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ना हरि भजे न तीरथ सेवे चोटी कालि गही ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Nā har bẖaje na ṯirath seve cẖotī kāl gahī. ||1|| rahā▫o.

अवर सगल मिथिआ ए जानउ भजनु रामु को सही ॥१॥
Avar sagal mithi▫ā e jān▫o bẖajan rām ko sahī. ||1||
know that all of these things are false. The Lord's meditation alone is true. ||1||
ਫਿਰਤ ਫਿਰਤ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਜੁਗ ਹਾਰਿਓ ਮਾਨਸ ਦੇਹ ਲਹੀ ॥
फिरत फिरत बहुते जुग हारिओ मानस देह लही ॥
Firaṯ firaṯ bahuṯe jug hāri▫o mānas ḏeh lahī.
Wandering, wandering around for so many ages, he has grown weary, and finally, he obtained this human body.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹਤ ਮਿਲਨ ਕੀ ਬਰੀਆ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਕਹਾ ਨਹੀ ॥੨॥੨॥
नानक कहत मिलन की बरीआ सिमरत कहा नही ॥२॥२॥
Nānak kahaṯ milan kī barī▫ā simraṯ kahā nahī. ||2||2||
Says Nanak, this is the opportunity to meet the Lord; why don't you remember Him in meditation? ||2||2||

ਚਿੱਤ ਦੀ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਅੰਸਪੂਰਨ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਹਿ = ਵਿਚ। ਰਹੀ = ਰਹਿ ਗਈ।
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਵੇਖੋ, ਮਾਇਆ ਧਾਰੀ ਦੀ ਮੰਦ-ਭਾਗਤਾ! ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਗਈ।

ਬੰਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਧਰਮ ਅਸਥਾਨਾ ਤੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੋਦੀਓ ਪਕੜ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
ਭਜੇ = ਭਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਤੀਰਥ = {तीर्थ = A holy person} ਸੰਤ ਜਨ। {ਵੇਖੋ: (੧) "ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਸੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ, ਦੁਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥. . . ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਪਖਾਲੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥" (ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤੀ ਮ: ੧, ਪੰਨਾ ੧੩੪੫)।(੨) ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮ: ੯ "ਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਿਓ ਨਾ ਗੁਰਜਨੁ ਸੇਵਿਓ", ਪੰਨਾ ੬੩੨ (ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੀਜਾ)}। ਸੇਵੇ = ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਚੋਟੀ = ਬੋਦੀ। ਕਾਲਿ = ਕਾਲ ਨੇ। ਗਹੀ = ਫੜ ਲਈ ॥੧॥
ਨਾਹ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ਤੇ, ਮੌਤ ਨੇ ਬੋਦੀ ਆ ਫੜੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥

ਦਾਰਾ = ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ। ਪੂਤ = ਪੁੱਤਰ। ਰਥ = ਗੱਡੀਆਂ। ਸੰਪਤਿ = ਮਲ-ਅਸਬਾਬ। ਸਭ ਮਹੀ = ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ, ਮਿੱਤਰ, ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਗੱਡੀਆਂ, ਮਾਲ-ਅਸਬਾਬ, ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਸਾਰੀ ਹੀ ਧਰਤੀ-
ਅਵਰ ਸਗਲ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਏ ਜਾਨਉ ਭਜਨੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਕੋ ਸਹੀ ॥੧॥

ਜਾਣ ਲੇ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਕੂੜੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਕੇਵਲ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੀ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਵਰ = ਹੋਰ। ਸਗਲ = ਸਾਰਾ। ਮਿਥਿਆ = ਨਾਸਵੰਤ। ਜਾਨਹੁ = ਸਮਝੋ। ਕੋ = ਦਾ। ਸਹੀ = ਠੀਕ, ਸਾਥ ਨਿਬਾਹੁਣ ਵਾਲਾ, ਅਸਲ (ਸਾਥੀ) ॥੧॥
ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਸਮਝੋ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ (ਹੀ) ਅਸਲ (ਸਾਥੀ) ਹੈ ॥੧॥

ਘਣੇਰਿਆਂ ਯੁੱਗਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਾਰੇ ਹੁੱਟੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਸਰੀਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਜੁਗ = ਜੁਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ। ਹਾਰਿਓ = ਥੱਕ ਗਿਆ। ਮਾਨਸ ਦੇਹ = ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ। ਲਹੀ = ਲੱਭਾ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕਈ ਜੁਗ (ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਭਟਕ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਥੱਕ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। (ਹੁਣ) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ।

ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੁਣ ਮੌਕਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦਾ। ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਹੇ ਇਨਸਾਨ?
ਬਰੀਆ = ਵਾਰੀ। ਕਹਾ ਨਹੀ = ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ? ॥੨॥੨॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ ਇਹੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਹੈ, ਹੁਣ ਤੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ? ॥੨॥੨॥

ਭਜੇ = ਭਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਤੀਰਥ = {तीर्थ = A holy person} ਸੰਤ ਜਨ। {ਵੇਖੋ: (੧) "ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਸੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ, ਦੁਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥. . . ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਪਖਾਲੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥" (ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤੀ ਮ: ੧, ਪੰਨਾ ੧੩੪੫)।(੨) ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮ: ੯ "ਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਿਓ ਨਾ ਗੁਰਜਨੁ ਸੇਵਿਓ", ਪੰਨਾ ੬੩੨ (ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੀਜਾ)}। ਸੇਵੇ = ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਚੋਟੀ = ਬੋਦੀ। ਕਾਲਿ = ਕਾਲ ਨੇ। ਗਹੀ = ਫੜ ਲਈ ॥੧॥
ਨਾਹ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ਤੇ, ਮੌਤ ਨੇ ਬੋਦੀ ਆ ਫੜੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਦਾਰਾ ਮੀਤ ਪੂਤ ਰਥ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਧਨ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਭ ਮਹੀ ॥
Wife, friends, children, carriages, property, total wealth, the entire world -
ਵਹੁਟੀ, ਦੌਸਤ, ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ, ਗੱਡੀਆਂ, ਮਾਲ ਮਿਲਖ ਸਮੂਹ ਦੌਲਤ, ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸ਼ੈਆਂ,
ਦਾਰਾ = ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ। ਪੂਤ = ਪੁੱਤਰ। ਰਥ = ਗੱਡੀਆਂ। ਸੰਪਤਿ = ਮਲ-ਅਸਬਾਬ। ਸਭ ਮਹੀ = ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ, ਮਿੱਤਰ, ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਗੱਡੀਆਂ, ਮਾਲ-ਅਸਬਾਬ, ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਸਾਰੀ ਹੀ ਧਰਤੀ-
ਅਵਰ ਸਗਲ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਏ ਜਾਨਉ ਭਜਨੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਕੋ ਸਹੀ ॥੧॥
know that all of these things are false. The Lord's meditation alone is true. ||1||
ਜਾਣ ਲੇ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਕੂੜੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਕੇਵਲ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੀ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਵਰ = ਹੋਰ। ਸਗਲ = ਸਾਰਾ। ਮਿਥਿਆ = ਨਾਸਵੰਤ। ਜਾਨਹੁ = ਸਮਝੋ। ਕੋ = ਦਾ। ਸਹੀ = ਠੀਕ, ਸਾਥ ਨਿਬਾਹੁਣ ਵਾਲਾ, ਅਸਲ (ਸਾਥੀ) ॥੧॥
ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਸਮਝੋ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ (ਹੀ) ਅਸਲ (ਸਾਥੀ) ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਫਿਰਤ ਫਿਰਤ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਜੁਗ ਹਾਰਿਓ ਮਾਨਸ ਦੇਹ ਲਹੀ ॥
Wandering, wandering around for so many ages, he has grown weary, and finally, he obtained this human body.
ਘਣੇਰਿਆਂ ਯੁੱਗਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਾਰੇ ਹੁੱਟੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਸਰੀਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਜੁਗ = ਜੁਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ। ਹਾਰਿਓ = ਥੱਕ ਗਿਆ। ਮਾਨਸ ਦੇਹ = ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ। ਲਹੀ = ਲੱਭਾ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕਈ ਜੁਗ (ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਭਟਕ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਥੱਕ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। (ਹੁਣ) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹਤ ਮਿਲਨ ਕੀ ਬਰੀਆ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਕਹਾ ਨਹੀ ॥੨॥੨॥
Says Nanak, this is the opportunity to meet the Lord; why don't you remember Him in meditation? ||2||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੁਣ ਮੌਕਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦਾ। ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਹੇ ਇਨਸਾਨ?
ਬਰੀਆ = ਵਾਰੀ। ਕਹਾ ਨਹੀ = ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ? ॥੨॥੨॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ ਇਹੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਹੈ, ਹੁਣ ਤੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ? ॥੨॥੨॥
