One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a
well that the farmer had accidentally left
uncovered. The animal cried piteously for
hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do.
Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the
well needed to be covered up anyway, so it just
wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbours to come over and help
him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel
dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what
was happening and cried horribly. Then, to
everyone's amazement he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked
down the well. He was astonished at what he saw.
With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey
was doing something amazing. He would shake it off
and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbours continued to shovel dirt on
top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up.
Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped
up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

Moral of the story....

Life is filled with challenges - some
can knock you down and bring you to your knees but it's
not how many times you get knocked down that matters -
it's how many times you shake them off and step back up.

You are Inaccessible and Unfathomable, O Invisible and Infinite True Lord Master.

ਤੂ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਭਿ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਇਕੋ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
तू दाता सभि मंगते इको देवणहारु ॥
Ŧū ḏāṯā sabẖ mangṯe iko ḏevaṇhār.
You are the Giver, all are beggars of You. You alone are the Great Giver.

ਜਿਨੀ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

Jinī sevi▫ā ṯinī sukẖ pā▫i▫ā gurmaṯī vīcẖār.
Those who serve You find peace, reflecting on the Guru's Teachings.

ਇਕਨਾ ਨੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਏਵੈ ਭਾਵਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
इकना नो तुधु एवै भावदा माइआ नालि पिआरु ॥
Iknā no ṯuḏẖ evai bẖāvḏā mā▫i▫ā nāl pi▫ār.
Some, according to Your Will, are in love with Maya.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
गुर कै सबदि सलाहीऐ अंतरि प्रेम पिआरु ॥
Gur kai sabaḏ salāhī▫ai anṯar parem pi▫ār.
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, praise the Lord with love and affection within.

ਵਿਣੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
विणु प्रीती भगति न होवई विणु सतिगुर न लगै पिआरु ॥
viṇ parīṯī bẖagaṯ na hova▫ī viṇ saṯgur na lagai pi▫ār.
Without love, there is no devotion. Without the True Guru, love is not enshrined.

ਤੂ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਭਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਸੇਵਦੇ ਇਕ ਢਾਢੀ ਕਰੇ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥
तू प्रभु सभि तुधु सेवदे इक ढाढी करे पुकार ॥
Ŧū parabẖ sabẖ ṯuḏẖ sevḏe ik dẖādẖī kare pukār.
You are the Lord God; everyone serves You. This is the prayer of Your humble minstrel.

ਦੇਹਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਆ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੧੯॥
देहि दानु संतोखीआ सचा नामु मिलै आधारु ॥१९॥

Āḏ jugāḏ jugāḏ jugo jug ṯā kā anṯ na jāni▫ā.
He existed in the beginning, in the primeval age, and all throughout
the ages; His limits cannot be known.

ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਰਵਿ ਐਸਾ ਰੂਪੁ ਬਖਾਨਿਆ ॥੧॥
सरब निरंतरि रामु रहिआ रवि ऐसा रूपु बखानिआ ॥१॥
Sarab niranṯar rām rahi▫ā rav aisā rūp bakẖāni▫ā. ||1||
The Lord is pervading and permeating amongst all; this is how His Form
can be described. ||1||

ਗੋਬਿਦੁ ਗਾਜੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਬਾਜੈ ॥
गोबिदु गाजै सबदु बाजै ॥
Gobiḏ gājai sabaḏ bājai.
The Lord of the Universe appears when the Word of His Shabad is chanted.

ਆਨਦ ਰੂਪੀ ਮੇਰੋ ਰਾਮਈਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
आनद रूपी मेरो रामईआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

My Lord is the Embodiment of Bliss. ||1||Pause||

ਬਾਵਨ ਬੀਖੂ ਬਾਨੈ ਬੀਖੇ ਬਾਸੁ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਲਾਗਿਲਾ ॥
बावन बीखू बानै बीखे बासु ते सुख लागिला ॥
Bāvan bīkẖū bānai bīkẖe bās ṯe sukẖ lāgilā.
The beautiful fragrance of sandalwood emanates from the sandalwood
tree, and attaches to the other trees of the forest.

ਸਰਬੇ ਆਦਿ ਪਰਮਲਾਦਿ ਕਾਸਟ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਭੈਇਲਾ ॥੨॥
सरबे आदि परमलादि कासट चंदनु भैइला ॥२॥
Sarbe āḏ paramlāḏ kāsat cẖanḏan bẖai▫ilā. ||2||
God, the Primal Source of everything, is like the sandalwood tree; He
transforms us woody trees into fragrant sandalwood. ||2||

ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਚੇ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਹਮ ਚੇ ਲੋਹਾ ਸੰਗੇ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਭੈਇਲਾ ॥
तुम्ह चे पारसु हम चे लोहा संगे कंचनु भैइला ॥
Ŧumĥ cẖe pāras ham cẖe lohā sange kancẖan bẖai▫ilā.
You, O Lord, are the Philosopher's Stone, and I am iron; associating
with You, I am transformed into gold.

ਤੂ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਲਾਲੁ ਨਾਮਾ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਲਾ ॥੩॥੨॥
तू दइआलु रतनु लालु नामा साचि समाइला ॥३॥२॥
Ŧū ḏa▫i▫āl raṯan lāl nāmā sācẖ samā▫ilā. ||3||2||
You are Merciful; You are the gem and the jewel. Naam Dayv is absorbed
in the Truth. ||3||2||

“What’s the point of rehat, or code of conduct, forget about receiving amrit all I need to do is the Guru’s service, or seva, don’t I?”

" Pratham rehat eh jaan khandey ki pahul chhake"

A Sikh said to Guru Gobind Singh jee, "What's the point of rehat, or code of conduct, forget about receiving amrit all I need to do is the Guru's service, or seva, don't I?"

Guru Gobind Singh jee told him the time would come and he would understand why amrit was important. Soon afterwards, the man's young son died. Guru Gobind Singh jee came. The Sikh stood up and said, "Guru jee, my son has left."

Guru Gobind Singh jee asked him to take the sheet off the body and said to the father, "I thought you said he was dead, but look at him his hands, feet, eyes and teeth are still intact. Yet you say he is dead."

The Sikh said, "What's the point of the body when there is no breath?"

Guru Gobind Singh jee said, "Now you have your answer. You asked me what's the point of the body without any breath. In the same way without rehat, or the code of conduct that you follow after receiving amrit, my Sikh has no life at all, infact he's as good as dead."

The Sikh said, "Guru jee, now I understand that Amrit is as important to the Guru as breaths are to the body."

God, Waheguru Ji has greater blessings in store for you! He has favor in your future like you’ve never imagined. He wants to take you places that you’ve never dreamed. But in order for us to partake of all these blessings, we have to increase our capacity to receive.

ਜਿਥੈ ਨੀਚ ਸਮਾਲੀਅਨਿ ਤਿਥੈ ਨਦਰਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਖਸੀਸ ॥੪॥੩॥
Jithhai Neech Samaaleean Thithhai Nadhar Thaeree Bakhasees ||4||3||
जिथै नीच समालीअनि तिथै नदरि तेरी बखसीस ॥४॥३॥
In that place where the lowly are cared for-there, the blessings of your Glance of Grace rain down.

Think about this: if you have a one-gallon bucket, and someone has fifty gallons to give you, the problem is not with the supply. The problem is that you don’t have the capacity to receive the fifty gallons. But if you get rid of that small container and get something larger, then you will be able to receive more. It’s the same way with God, Waheguru Ji. If we think we’ve reached our limits, the problem isn’t that God, Waheguru Ji doesn’t have the resources or the ability. The problem is that our container is too small. We have to enlarge our vision and make room for the new things God, Waheguru Ji has for us. Our attitude should be, “Even though the economy is down, I know God, Waheguru Ji is still on the throne. I know wherever I go His goodness and mercy follow me.”

ਜਹ ਜਾਈਐ ਤਹਾ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ॥
Jeh Jaaeeai Thehaa Suhaelae ||
जह जाईऐ तहा सुहेले ॥
Wherever I go, I am happy there.

When you have that kind of attitude, you’re increasing your capacity to receive so that you can live the abundant life He, Waheguru Ji, has in store for you.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

ਹਉ ਮਾਗਉ ਦਾਨੁ ਤੁਝੈ ਪਹਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
Ho Maago Dhaan Thujhai Pehi Karathae Har Anadhin Naam Vakhaanee Hae ||12||
हउ मागउ दानु तुझै पहि करते हरि अनदिनु नामु वखाणी हे ॥१२॥

I beg for blessings from you, O Creator Lord, Waheguru Ji; I repeat your Name night and day.
Father in heaven, Waheguru Ji, today I choose to increase my capacity to receive from You. I let go of limited thinking and old mindsets and open myself to everything You have in store for me.
