जीउ डरतु है आपणा कै सिउ करी पुकार ॥
Jī▫o daraṯ hai āpṇā kai si▫o karī pukār.
My soul is afraid; to whom should I complain?
ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰਣੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
दूख विसारणु सेविआ सदा सदा दातारु ॥१॥
Ḏūkẖ visāraṇ sevi▫ā saḏā saḏā ḏāṯār. ||1||
I serve Him, who makes me forget my pains; He is the Giver, forever and ever. ||1||

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਅੰਤਿ ਛਡਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥
अनदिनु साहिबु सेवीऐ अंति छडाए सोइ ॥
An▫ḏin sāhib sevī▫ai anṯ cẖẖadā▫e so▫e.
Night and day, I serve my Lord and Master; He shall save me in the end.
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
सुणि सुणि मेरी कामणी पारि उतारा होइ ॥२॥
Suṇ suṇ merī kāmṇī pār uṯārā ho▫e. ||2||
Hearing and listening, O my dear sister, I have crossed over. ||2||
ਦਇਆਲ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਰਾ ॥
दइआल तेरै नामि तरा ॥
Ḏa▫i▫āl ṯerai nām ṯarā.
O Merciful Lord, Your Name carries me across.
ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
सद कुरबाणै जाउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Saḏ kurbāṇai jā▫o. ||1|| rahā▫o.
I am forever a sacrifice to You. ||1||Pause||
ਸਰਬੰ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
सरबं साचा एकु है दूजा नाही कोइ ॥
Sarbaʼn sācẖā ek hai ḏūjā nāhī ko▫e.
In all the world, there is only the One True Lord; there is no other at all.
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥੩॥
ता की सेवा सो करे जा कउ नदरि करे ॥३॥
Ŧā kī sevā so kare jā ka▫o naḏar kare. ||3||
He alone serves the Lord, upon whom the Lord casts His Glance of Grace. ||3||
ਤੁਧੁ ਬਾਝੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕੇਵ ਰਹਾ ॥
तुधु बाझु पिआरे केव रहा ॥
Ŧuḏẖ bājẖ pi▫āre kev rahā.
Without You, O Beloved, how could I even live?
ਸਾ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਹਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਹਾਂ ॥
सा वडिआई देहि जितु नामि तेरे लागि रहां ॥
Sā vadi▫ā▫ī ḏėh jiṯ nām ṯere lāg rahāʼn.
Bless me with such greatness, that I may remain attached to Your Name.
ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜਾਇ ਕਹਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
दूजा नाही कोइ जिसु आगै पिआरे जाइ कहा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ḏūjā nāhī ko▫e jis āgai pi▫āre jā▫e kahā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
There is no other, O Beloved, to whom I can go and speak. ||1||Pause||
ਸੇਵੀ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਚੰਉ ਕੋਇ ॥
सेवी साहिबु आपणा अवरु न जाचंउ कोइ ॥
Sevī sāhib āpṇā avar na jācẖaʼn▫o ko▫e.
I serve my Lord and Master; I ask for no other.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਬਿੰਦ ਬਿੰਦ ਚੁਖ ਚੁਖ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥
नानकु ता का दासु है बिंद बिंद चुख चुख होइ ॥४॥

ਰਾਗ ਧਨਾਸਰੀ, ਘਰ ੧ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਚਾਰ-ਬੰਦਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ।
ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਹੈ। ਸੱਚ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ, ਰਚਣਹਾਰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ। ਉਹ ਨਿੱਡਰ, ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣੀ-ਰਹਿਤ, ਅਜਨਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਵੈ-ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਵਾਨ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ 'ਹੋਂਦ ਵਾਲਾ' ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਭੈ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਵੈਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਕਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਸ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ), ਜੋ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਤੋਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਉ ਡਰਤੁ ਹੈ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਉ ਕਰੀ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥ ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰਣੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਭੈ-ਭੀਤ ਹੋਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਕੀਹਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਫਰਿਆਦ ਕਰਾਂ? ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਘਾਲ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੋ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਦੁੱਖੜੇ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ, ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇਣਹਾਰ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਉ = ਜਿੰਦ। ਕੈ ਸਿਉ = ਕਿਸ ਪਾਸ? ਕਰੀ = ਮੈਂ ਕਰਾਂ। ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰਣੁ = ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ। ਸੇਵਿਆ = ਮੈਂ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ।੧।
(ਜਗਤ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਕੰਬਦੀ ਹੈ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਬਚਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ) ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਮੈਂ ਮਿੰਨਤਾਂ ਕਰਾਂ। (ਸੋ, ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰੇ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਮੈਂ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।੧।
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਨੀਤ ਨਵਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮੈਂਡਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਨਵਾਂ ਨਕੋਰ ਹੈ। ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਦੇਣਹਾਰ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
ਨੀਤ = ਨਿੱਤ। ਨਵਾ = (ਭਾਵ, ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਅੱਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ)। ਦਾਤਾਰੁ = ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
(ਫਿਰ ਉਹ) ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਿਕ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਿੱਤ ਦੇ ਤਰਲੇ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਕਦੇ ਅੱਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਨਿੱਤ ਇਉਂ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੈ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਅੰਤਿ ਛਡਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
ਰਾਤ ਦਿਨ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਚਾਰਕੀ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਅਖੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬੰਦਖਲਾਸ ਕਰਾਊਗਾ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ, ਹੇ ਮੈਂਡੀ ਮਨਮੋਹਨੀ ਇਸਤਰੀਏ, ਮੈਂ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਉਤੱਰ ਜਾਵਾਂਗਾ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ = ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼, ਸਦਾ। ਅੰਤਿ = ਆਖ਼ਰ ਨੂੰ। ਮੇਰੀ ਕਾਮਣੀ = ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ!।੨।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਉਸ ਮਾਲਿਕ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਆਖ਼ਰ ਉਹੀ ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣ (ਉਸ ਮਾਲਿਕ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।
ਦਇਆਲ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਰਾ ॥ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹੇ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੈਂ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਰ ਜਾਵਾਂਗਾ। ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਘੋਲੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਠਹਿਰਾਓ।
ਦਇਆਲ = ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ! ਨਾਮਿ = ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ। ਤਰਾ = ਤਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਹੇ ਦਿਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਹ, ਤਾ ਕਿ) ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮੈਂ (ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਾਂ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਸਰਬੰ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥੩॥
ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਸੱਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਹੈ। ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਹੈ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ। ਕੇਵਲ ਓਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਰਬੰ = ਹਰ ਥਾਂ। ਸਾਚਾ = ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ। ਕਉ = ਨੂੰ। ਨਦਰਿ = ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ। ਕਰੇਇ = ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।
ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ। ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ ਉਹ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।
ਤੁਧੁ ਬਾਝੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕੇਵ ਰਹਾ ॥ ਸਾ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਹਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਹਾਂ ॥ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜਾਇ ਕਹਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ! ਤੇਰੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ? ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲਤਾ ਬਖਸ਼ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ। ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਸਰਾ ਹੈ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਜਾਨੀਆ! ਜਿਸ ਕੋਲ ਮੈਂ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਿਥਿਆ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਾਂ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
ਕੇਵ ਰਹਾ = ਕਿਵੇਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ? ਮੈਂ ਵਿਆਕੁਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਜਿਤੁ = ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ। ਜਾਇ = ਜਾ ਕੇ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਵਿਆਕੁਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਉਹ ਵੱਡੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਹ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ। ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਐਸਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਪਾਸ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰ ਸਕਾਂ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਸੇਵੀ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਚੰਉ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਬਿੰਦ ਬਿੰਦ ਚੁਖ ਚੁਖ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਘਾਲ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਗਦਾ। ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਗੁਮਾਸ਼ਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹਰ ਛਿਨ ਉਸ ਉਤੋਂ ਟੁਕੜੇ ਟੁਕੜੇ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੇਵੀ = ਮੈਂ ਸੇਂਵਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਜਾਚੰਉ = ਮੈਂ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਬਿੰਦ ਬਿੰਦ = ਖਿਨ ਖਿਨ। ਚੁਖ ਚੁਖ = ਟੋਟੇ ਟੋਟੇ, ਕੁਰਬਾਨ।੪।
(ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਸਾਗਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਤਰਨ ਲਈ) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਮੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਗਦਾ। ਨਾਨਕ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਉਸ (ਮਾਲਿਕ) ਦਾ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਕ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਾਲਿਕ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਖਿਨ ਖਿਨ ਸਦਕੇ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।
ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਬਿੰਦ ਬਿੰਦ ਚੁਖ ਚੁਖ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥੪॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਹਰ ਮੁਹਤ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਉਤੇ ਬੋਟੀ ਬੋਟੀ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ, ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
ਵਿਟਹੁ = ਤੋਂ। ਸਾਹਿਬ = ਹੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ!।ਰਹਾਉ।
